I have quite a long history with Fortnite. I remember downloading it for the first time years and years ago during the beta tests, as my first step into the Battle Royale game genre. At the time, it felt like a refreshing experience, exploiting game mechanics that were new and appealing to a lot of us.
Many years passed since then, and it became a huge commercial and competitive machine that my attention span did not dare to pursue… I lost interest in Fortnite, but I still remember that the game was very good-looking, very well-optimized, very colourful and a charm to control.
Now imagine the same good-looking and well-oiled machine, but insert a massive dose of survival and LEGO’s, and you have LEGO Fortnite !
Here are my first impressions of the game, based on a few hours of gameplay.
Survival game with a twist
LEGO Fortnite is a game mode that lets you explore and build in an open world with different LEGO themes. You can use LEGO bricks and pieces to create anything you can imagine, from houses and vehicles to weapons and traps.
You can also interact with other LEGO characters and creatures, and complete quests and challenges. The game mode is designed to be fun and safe for children and families, so there is no shooting or realistic violence. Instead, you can use LEGO tools and gadgets to solve puzzles and overcome obstacles. LEGO Fortnite is a creative and playful experience that celebrates the joy of LEGO and Fortnite.
Graphics are awesome
LEGO Fortnite is a game that combines the colourful and creative aesthetics of LEGO with the dynamic and immersive environments of Fortnite. The graphics are crisp and detailed, with realistic lighting, shadows, and reflections. The game also supports ray tracing, which enhances the realism and beauty of the LEGO worlds. LEGO Fortnite is a stunning visual experience that celebrates the joy of LEGO and Fortnite.
Way better for kids than OG Fortnite
LEGO Fortnite is a game mode that offers children and families a fun and safe alternative to the original Fortnite. Unlike OG Fortnite, which features shooting and realistic violence, LEGO Fortnite focuses on exploring and building in an open world with different LEGO themes. The game mode encourages creativity, experimentation and collaboration through play, and does not expose young players to harmful or inappropriate content.
Conclusion
Overall LEGO Fortnite feels like a very good mash-up between Minecraft, Rust, Valheim and any LEGO games, created in a very polished gaming engine. There may not be any stories in the game (so far), but what is there regarding gameplay is solid.
I will continue to play the game and update my thoughts about it shortly
